BIRDWATCHING
Bird colonies of herons, spoonbills, eastern flossy ibises and cormorants, pelicans, seagulls, terns, etc.
Rosca - Buhaiova, the biggest European mixed colony: common pelican
pairs, with tens of curly pelican and big cormorant, in scenery that reminds
us of Jurassic Park.
Specialists only have access nearby the colonies (special authorizations requested)
Birdwatching activities are to be organized for small groups, on request, departing from
Tulcea, Murighiol or Dunavat.
You can also have a boathouse (4 - 6 persons) to visit the areas of your interest.
FISHING and HUNTING
Fishing or hunting license is needed.
It can be obtained at a tourist agency in Tulcea or the Administration of the
Danube Delta Biosphere Reservation.

Fishing can be practiced the whole year, excepting a period of 60 days
beginning in April, when the fish deposit their eggs.
The most famous hunting areas are: Razim, Caraorman, Uzlina, Crisan,
Sulina, Ilgani, Cordon.

January
Musk rat, roebuck, polecats, hares (rabbits), wild boar, fox, small snipes,
crows, big cormorant, magpie, pheasant pout, gallinule, gooses, ring
dove, thrushes.
In the ice hole: perch, pike (river pirate), pike perch, and white fishes,
in the unfrozen water - roach, dace, barbell, bleak and sometimes carp.
February
Musk rat, polecats, nutria, fox, small snipes, crow, big cormorant, magpie
pheasant pout, gallinule, gooses, ring dove, bald coot, lapwing, doves, wild
ducks, jackdaw, thrushes, common heron, turtle dove; until February the 15th,
roebuck, hares, wild boar.
In the river: dace, broad snout, barbell, if the ice is not melt (thaw)
you can still fish in a hole in the ice.
March
Musk rat, nutria, fox, small snipes, crows, magpie, thrushes, common heron,
turtle dove until March the 15th big cormorant, gallinule, bald coot,
wild duck (exept the big wild duck).
We get good results with the predators: rapacious carp, pike perch and
perch, the quiet fishes start to bite as the water becomes warm.
April
Small snipes, crows, magpie, musk rat.
In the second half of the month prohibition begins for all species of fish
from the plain water except the Danube, the frontier rivers and Black Sea.
While fishing is permitted, the best results are obtained for the
predatory: rapacious carp, pike perch perch, pike (river pirate) and perch.
May
Crows, magpie.
In the plain rivers fishing is stopped for all fish (this is the period of
prohibition for laying down the roes); in the mountain waters fishing
starts for indigenous/native trout and well sinker/digger; the interdiction
for rainbow trout and grayling continues.
June
Roebuck (male), crows, magpie, jay.
The prohibition period finishes by the mid of the month; in rivers we can
fish dace/chub, rapacious carp and broad snout; in the lakes and plashes -
pike perch, perch, pike (river pirate), "white fishes" ; in the mountain
rivers fishing is permitted for all the species of salmonoids; for huck - special authorization.
July
Roebuck (male), crows, magpie, jay.
All species of fish from plain and mountain water; good results are
obtained while fishing on Danube for cat fish/ waller, rapacious carp, pike
perch, (the warmer the water is the fish will be found deeper, in cooler
waters); in general good results at fishing are obtained only at the first
hours of the day.
August
Roebuck (male), wild boar, crows, magpie, starlings, ring dove, doves,
thrushes, common herons, turtle dove; from August the 15th of badger, big
cormorant, gallinule, gooses, bald coot, lapwing, quail, wild duck, umbra.
All species of fish from plain and mountain water; good results are
obtained while fishing in the Danube for cat fish/ waller, carp and rapacious carp.
September
male until September 15th, wild boar, small snipes, crows,
big cormorant, gallinule, gooses, starlings, ring dove, bald coot, lapwing,
pigeon, quail, wild duck, turtle dove from September 15th fox.
All species of fish from plain water; in the mountain waters as of
September 15th , fishing is over for indigene trout, well sinker/digger.
October
Musk rat, roebuck (female), wild boar, badger, fox, small snipes, crows, big
cormorant, jay, gallinule, gooses, starlings, ring dove, bald coot,
lapwing, doves, quail, wild duck, woodcock, thrushes, common herons from October
15th partridge.
Weaker results for peaceful fish, when the water becomes colder;
November
Roebuck (female), hares, wild boar, fox, small snipes, crows, big cormorant,
jay, gallinule, gooses, starlings, ring dove, hazel hen/grouse, bald coot,
lapwing, pigeon, partridge, wild duck, woodcock, jackdaw, thrushes, common
herons, turtle dove, until November 15th quail.
Weaker results for peaceful (not-raptors) fish; good results for raptors, pike
(river pirate), pike perch, perch and rapacious carp).
December
Roebuck, hares, wild boar, small snipes, crows, crested/tufted lark, big
cormorant, magpie, pheasant pout, jay, gallinule, gooses, starlings, ring dove,
bald coot, lapwing, doves, wild duck, woodcock, jackdaw, thrushes, common
herons, turtle dove. If the water is frozen, fishing in an ice hole gives good results at: pike
(river pirate), perch and pike perch especially when using live bait.
